Something About Eve (An Eve Sumptor Book 1) Page 9

When Eve had received the phone call at the gallery, she had known that the game had begun. It annoyed her, but she would play. And this time she would win. But she had left the detectives even more frustrated than before. They knew who was after her, had leads but never told her, and of course couldn’t do anything without evidence. But Eve was not about to sit back and let her father try to ruin her again. She would fight to protect everything she has worked so hard for and didn’t give a damn what the cops told her. They didn’t know him. They didn’t know the lengths he would go to, to defeat her. But Eve did and she had set her own plan in motion to ensure that she comes out on top this time.

A shower had relaxed her and now the music pumping through the speakers lifted her mood even more. She vowed not to let this get in the way of a wonderful night with Adam.

Eve patted a minimum amount of powder onto her face and added color to her eyelids before applying mascara. But, it was when she got to her lips that she chose to be bold, deciding on a deep shade of red to accent her full lips. Letting her robe fall to the floor, she strolled naked to the bed and slid into the black, satin thong, so tiny that she wondered why she even bothered.

Next, she put on the matching black satin bra, running her hands over her breasts and down her flat stomach, stopping at the edge of her panties. Her thoughts ran between Adam and Lainey and the way each one of them aroused her.

“Stop it, Eve,” she told herself. “You’re coming home alone tonight.”

The black fitted pants that zipped up from the back, fit her like a glove and she chose a long, sheer black shirt that went down to her knees to wear with it. She buttoned the two buttons in the front leaving an ‘X’ to show her cleavage and toned belly.

Checking her appearances in the full-length mirror, she slipped on her heels and headed downstairs.

Lainey stood in front of the mirror, in just her panties and bra, studying her image. She had decided on black lace to wear underneath her clothes, knowing Eve would have approved of her choice. She had always been comfortable with her looks, but it hadn’t been until she had met Eve that she actually felt beautiful.

Jack had desired her, loved her, but no one had ever looked at her the way Eve Sumptor had. What was it about Eve’s eyes that made it feel as though she were looking at the very soul of a person?

Why did it feel like she was seeing the person Lainey wanted to be instead of who she really was?

Lainey heard Jack in the other room and closed her eyes. She loved him very much and didn’t want to hurt him, so why couldn’t she get Eve out of her mind? She dreamt of Eve, thought of Eve and she couldn’t stop. Maybe it was just curiosity, she thought. But what if it were more? She remembered how Eve had taken her hair in her hands and how it had felt when Eve had ran her fingers through it. Then she recalled Eve’s body pressed to hers.

“Stop it, Lainey,” she whispered to her mirror image. “You know nothing can ever happen between you two.”

Putting her hair up again the way Eve had arranged it this morning, she began the task of applying her makeup choosing neutral colors, except for her lips which she painted a rich shade of scarlet. Taking the little black dress Eve had given her from its hanger with care, she held it up to her. It smelled of Eve. Lainey closed her eyes.

“I have got to stop this,” she warned herself.

Stepping into the dress, she pulled it up over her hips and breasts. A perfect fit, she thought, surprised. She turned to look at herself and for the first time she saw what Eve saw, the woman she wanted to be instead of who she really was.

When Eve stepped out of the elevator into the lobby of her apartment building, Henry was there, ready for her with the door held open.

“You look beautiful tonight, Miss Eve,” he said, tipping his hat. “Hot date?”

Eve laughed. “Very hot. Don’t wait up.”

Lainey stepped out of the bathroom and waited for Jack to turn to her. When he did, his heart almost stopped.

“You look great,” he said, walking up to her. “Where did you get this dress?” he asked and ran a finger down the strap. The touch of his hand had Lainey pressing herself to him.

“It was a gift.” Her lips were a breath away from his. “Kiss me, Jack.”

“We’re going to be late, Lainey,” he told her, but he closed his eyes and breathed her in. After twelve years, she could still excite him.

“So? I’m sure Eve will understand. Kiss me. Just once.”

“What if I can’t stop, Lainey?” he said, his voice hoarse with desire. It was exactly what Lainey needed to hear.

“Later tonight you won’t have to stop,” she whispered and stood on her tiptoes to kiss him gently on the lips. “Ready to go?”

“We could always stay home. Say we couldn’t find a babysitter.”

“Jack!” Lainey laughed. “We have to go. We promised. I’ll make it up to you.”

In true Eve fashion, Lainey winked seductively and slipped on her black spiked heels. If Jack’s reaction was any indication, it was clear that Eve’s advice was already starting to work.

When Eve pulled up to the curb in front of O, Adam was waiting for her. Her heart skipped as she noticed how his black jeans and tight black shirt showed off his incredible body. Aroused by the way Adam looked at her, she wrapped her arms around his neck, taking no notice of the onlookers watching them.

“Hi,” she said, her voice thick.

“Hi,” he said, his voice rough with emotion as Eve pressed her body to his. “You look amazing.”

“So do you.” She reached up, took his face in her hands and brought his lips to hers for a mind-boggling kiss.

“How about we forget the club and go back to your place?” he whispered in her ear. “I want to be inside you, Eve.”

“God, Adam.” Eve moaned, kissing him again, and then placing her fingers over his mouth. “I want that, too. But no sex tonight. This is a date. We’ve never been on a date, Adam. Can we do this without ending up in bed?”

“Of course, Eve.” He kissed her palm. “If that’s what you want, that’s what we’ll do.”

“Yeah?” God, his mouth was driving her crazy. This was going to be harder than she imagined. “Mmm. Let’s go in before I change my mind.”

Eve was pleased to see people lining the block to get into the club as she walked up to the bouncer. “Hey, Bruce,” she said.

“Good evening, Ms. Sumptor.” Eve had chosen Bruce originally because of his size. He towered over her, standing at six five and had to be at least three hundred pounds. But, it was when he spoke to Eve that she knew she had made the perfect choice. His voice was deep, yet soft, and he was very respectful, although when he was angry, his voice boomed loud enough to scare even the manliest of men.

Unhooking the velvet rope, he ushered them into the marble foyer of the club. “Damn, she’s hot,” he mumbled to himself and then turned back to do his job.

Inside the club, the music pumped loud and the lights blazed to the rhythm of the beat. Eve and Adam made their way through the crowd, towards the dance floor.

“Ms. Sumptor?” Eve felt a hand on her shoulder and turned.

“Hi, Ashley,” she yelled over the music.

“Your table is ready in the VIP area. Would you like me to get you something to drink?”

Ashley was a voluptuous red head wearing a mini dress made of red spandex. Eve liked her because, despite Ashley’s appearance, she was a very sweet young girl from the Midwest.

“Two club sodas,” Eve told her. “Ashley, there are two more joining us tonight. Please be sure they get whatever they want on the house. I invited Lainey and her husband,” she explained to Adam. “I’m sorry, I should have told you.”

“It’s okay,” he grinned, kissing her gently on the lips. “You really don’t want to end up in bed with me tonight do you?”

“I really do want to,” she corrected him. “That’s why I invited them.”

  Eve ran a fingertip down Adam’s c
heek and stood on her tiptoes. “Dance with me,” she whispered in his ear, driving him wild.

Eve led Adam to the dance floor, and felt the beat flowing through them as she moved her body with his. He pulled her closer, loving the way she felt against him. Eve brought her arms up and wrapped them around Adam’s neck and they swayed together in an erotic dance as if only the two of them existed.

Lainey and Jack pulled up to the curb and waited for the valet. “This doesn’t look like our scene, Lainey,” Jack said as he observed the crowd lining the block.

“Give it a chance, Jack,” Lainey told him and linked her arm through his. “Let’s be young again. It’ll be fun.”

“Fun,” Jack mumbled as he took the ticket from valet and walked up to the bouncer. “Do we have to wait to get in?”

“Name?” Bruce asked looking down at Jack.

“Stanton. Jack and Lainey Stanton,” Jack replied.

“You’re on the list,” he told them and spoke briefly into his headset. “Someone will be out to take you to the VIP area.”

Only a moment had passed before the voluptuous red head opened the door to the club. “Mr. and Mrs. Stanton?”

  “Yes,” Lainey answered.

“Right this way. Ms. Sumptor is expecting you.”

“Do you think those are real?” Lainey whispered in Jack’s ear.

Jack chuckled at his wife and leaned down to kiss her temple. “Hush.”

Ashley led them to the luxurious VIP area of the club. It was decorated in white, which Lainey now thought of as Eve’s signature color, with glass tables and modern V back chairs. The tables sported thin monitors in the center, but no keyboards that Lainey could see. Lining the railing that separated the area from the rest of the club were white plush couches that club goers could relax on while they watched the dance floor on any one of the fifty-two inch TVs surrounding them.

“What can I get you two to drink?” Ashley asked.

“I’ll take a beer, whatever’s on tap,” Jack told her.

“A wine spritzer for me, please,” Lainey said.

“Very well. Ms. Sumptor said to treat you with whatever you wanted,” Ashley said, guiding them to a table. “I’ll be back with your drinks. If you would like something to eat, just press your selection on the monitor and it will be brought to you. Enjoy your time here at O. If you need anything, my name is Ashley and I will be happy to help you.”

“Excuse me, Ashley,” Lainey asked. “But where is Eve?”

Ashley pointed at Eve down on the dance floor. “Dancing,” she responded with a smile.

Lainey caught a glimpse of Eve and Adam on the crowded dance floor. They looked so right together, she thought, and so exotic. They were two of the most beautiful people Lainey had ever seen. No wonder they were together. The way they were dancing was so sensual and passionate that Lainey could only imagine what they were like when they made love.

“You call that dancing?” Jack said.

“Yes. What do you call it?”

“Fucking with clothes,” he said. “Although Eve isn’t wearing much.”

“Stop it,” Lainey protested, annoyed. “She looks beautiful. And they don’t look like they’re fucking. Just having fun. Let’s dance, too.”

“I’m hungry,” Jack told her. “Let’s get something to eat instead.”

Just then, Eve’s eyes locked with Lainey’s and the jolt of the contact made her catch her breath. She watched as Eve crooked a finger, beckoning Lainey to join her.

“I’m going to go dance,” she told Jack. “Are you coming?”

“No. I’ll wait for you here. I’m going to order something to eat, you want anything?”

“Order whatever,” she told him impatiently. “I’ll be back.”

When Eve left Adam’s side and pulled her onto the dance floor, Lainey’s first impulse was to retreat. But then Eve danced around her until her back was against Eve’s breasts, and she knew there was nowhere else she’d rather be. She felt Eve lean into her, felt Eve’s breath on her ear.

“You look wonderful,” Eve whispered. “I knew you would.”

“I don’t know how to dance. Not like this,” Lainey replied and felt like an idiot. It wasn’t what she had wanted to say. She wanted to tell Eve how incredible she looked and to thank her again for the dress. But, all of that escaped her as soon as Eve touched her.

“It’s okay. Just relax.” Eve slipped her hands down to Lainey’s hips and began swaying them with hers. “Follow my movements. Relax, Lainey. Feel the music. Feel me.” Eve pressed closer to Lainey, feeling that great ass against her as Lainey started moving to the rhythm of the music. “Mmm. Yes, Lainey. Like that,” Eve whispered, arousing Lainey.

Taking Lainey’s hands in hers, she raised them over her head. She glanced seductively at Adam as she and Lainey swayed together. He would enjoy this, Eve thought. A small moan escaped from Lainey when Eve pressed even closer and started singing quietly in Lainey’s ear. Eve danced in front of Lainey then and pulled her until she was sandwiched between Adam and Lainey. She felt Adam’s arms come around her waist and she brought Lainey’s arms around her neck. She was in heaven. She felt incredible having the two of them so close to her, rocking with her in an erotic dance.

Lainey had never felt more alive and turned on than she did at this moment. All she could feel was Eve’s body close to hers. All she could see was Eve looking into her eyes with that bewitching smile of hers.

As for Adam, he held Eve tight, loving the way she felt as she moved that beautiful body of hers against him. Lainey was a beautiful woman, he thought, though no one could compare with Eve for him. And the way she danced with Lainey was amazingly arousing. This was only a date, he reminded himself. He had told Eve there would be no sex, but he hadn’t realized just how difficult that would be.

Jack ordered a steak and baked potato for himself and Lainey and waited for her to return. What in the hell did Lainey want to come here for, he wondered. This was not their scene. The dance music was too loud and the clientele too young. Although he had to admit the ambiance was incredible, it just wasn’t for him. Sipping his beer, he walked to the railing. He watched, shocked as much as intrigued, as Lainey danced with Eve.

The music changed seamlessly and Eve felt Lainey pause.

“Come on,” Eve said. “Let’s take a breather.”

“You go on ahead,” Adam told her. “I’ll be right there.”

Being that close to Eve had made him rock hard and he needed to calm down before meeting anyone else and making small talk.

Eve rubbed against him. “Don’t take too long,” she purred in his ear, and then gave him suggestions on what she would like to do to him in his current state.

“You’re not helping,” he groaned and reluctantly pushed her away. “Be good.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” she teased. “Do you want something to eat?”

It was Adam’s turn to make Eve groan when he leaned in and told her exactly what he wanted to eat.

“Thank God you’re here,” Eve said, linking arms with Lainey. “This is going to be harder than I thought.” Eve’s mind was still reeling from seeing Lainey in the little black dress. “You really do look beautiful, Lainey. The dress looks amazing on you.”

“Thank you. I love it.” Lainey felt the heat from Eve’s eyes. “You look incredible, yourself.”

“Hello, Jack,” Eve said as they reached the table. “I trust you’re being served well.” Eve picked up her club soda and took a sip, watching Jack over the rim of glass.

What was it about the way Eve looked at him that left him feeling just slightly uncomfortable, yet slightly excited?

“I hope you ordered whatever you wanted,” she told him. “It’s on the house tonight.”

“That’s very kind of you, thank you.”

“My pleasure,” Eve said and took another sip of her drink. “You didn’t join us on the dance floor, Jack. Why was that?”

  “He said that what
you and Adam were doing wasn’t dancing,” Lainey answered before Jack could respond. He had annoyed her when he had said what he had and now she was getting retribution.

“Oh?” Eve smiled. “What were we doing?”

Lainey knew Jack would be upset with her, but she was too interested in Eve’s reaction to stop now. “He said it looked like you two were fucking.”

Eve’s reaction was a radiant smile. “Really? And what’s wrong with fucking, Jack?” When Jack didn’t answer, his face flushed with embarrassment, Eve grinned. “Hmm. Well, if you’re not going to - dance with your wife, I will,” she told him and taking Lainey’s hand, she strolled off, leaving Jack staring after them.

“I think you shocked him,” Lainey said, delighted despite herself.

“Good.” Eve chuckled. “He’ll watch us together and either get jealous or turned on. Either way, you’re in for a treat tonight.”

“Is that why you’re dancing with me now?” Lainey asked her, disappointed. “So I can get lucky tonight?”

“I’m dancing with you because I enjoyed the way your body felt next to mine,” she said boldly. “What it does to Jack is just an added bonus.”

Lainey’s heart raced. Not only has Eve shocked Jack, but she had done a hell of a job at shocking Lainey as well. When Eve pulled Lainey to her, she could only think of the other ways she wanted to be with Eve.

Adam made his way to their table and, noticing that Eve and Lainey were not there, spotted Eve immediately on the dance floor. Just seeing her and the way she moved was exciting him again, so he turned away and joined Jack at the table.

“Hi. I’m Adam.” Adam extended his hand and shook Jack’s in greeting.
